**[0:00]** [Music] [Applause] [Music] hello hello hello everyone and welcome welcome to my hometown of Denver this is you know we're just here amongst I don't know 8 000 of our closest friends this is gonna be fantastic welcome to NestGen Express we're coming to you live from the Colorado Convention Center here at Booth 4909 at Nest chat this is the FlytNow Booth uh I'm here with my first guest today and I'm really excited about it uh I am here with a Dean atridge the VP of solution engineering at vilatus Aerospace Dean welcome to the show thank you Jason and uh great to be here what a what a great event and really busy really busy cook very very busy I know we were just talking right before this that would be really great to be able to clone ourselves and or put our Consciousness into a sentient being like maybe one of these robot dogs right behind us I think that'd be a lot of fun so let me just let me double I have some

**[1:00]** questions for you let's just start with this one so I know that you have air report and it's a dronabox solution we're gonna talk more about that in a second but I'm curious with BB loss ready drone nesting Solutions becoming more prevalent I just have to ask are we one step closer to a Sci-Fi future with swarms of drones delivering pizzas and lattes and tough taking selfies for us so like and how do you see those Solutions integrating into our everyday lives without causing chaos so the chaos one is one of the way to focus all because yeah we could get there really fast and I think I think the FAA has a certainly in the United States the FAA has a good grass wanted uh and are slowly releasing us to uh cause that chaos and I think that's their concern as well um working as a Canadian Focus company we work a lot with Transport Canada as well it let the gloves off a little bit more on there and we're starting to explore more and more um but overseas the chaos has started uh

**[2:02]** and uh they they're a little bit more generous of what we're allowed to do and uh and we're really seeing uh a lot more drones coming into everyday lives I don't think it's I think the first mass drone collision and Chaos will probably be overseas Van Gogh that's a good thing uh but at the same time they're going to explore those regulations and find those pain points a lot faster than we are and we'll learn from that you know their level of risk acceptance is quite often lower than we would expect here and so uh so there's going to be some real changes we have some interest in the Middle East where they've said right everything's grounded until we saw the chaos out everything's grounded and that's that's an interesting I mean there's a Threat Level kind of aspect to that as well but at the same time you know they're like we can't allow this chaos because we have to know who's who's where's who who's friendly who's not and these UTM companies are really trying to sort that out and there's many of them they're really doing good work so it's coming but the chaos needs to be managed so uh yes we'll get to chaos if we

**[3:02]** don't manage it and I think that's why the brakes are on a little of them that totally makes sense and and that was a great answer I was hoping to catch you off guard but man yeah that was a good no great answer great answer so let's that segment really great the next question so what are some of the more Innovative real world applications that you've seen for BB loss ready drone nesting Solutions and how have they transformed the way that we approach those tasks so I can tell you best from our point of view in our area pool product we we were approached by a company the reason we built it is we're approached by a company that has lots and lots of oil Derricks spread across in the middle of nowhere I mean so we're talking a minute in the middle on a Canada scale in the middle of nowhere right so oil Derek's pumping gas all day now pumping oil all day and the thing is they they can leak and go wrong and they have an environmental Ando worked uh requirement to go and inspect those visually every day now do that at minus 30 degrees howling winds and snow or even worse right in spring when it all starts to

**[4:04]** turn to mud and now you've got to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle across the middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere so the the the concept was in the middle of each of these groups of these drones to survive all winter to survive all summer hop out the box and now the guy that used to drive that truck is doing his inspections in half the time remotely from a comfortable office where he hits the button the Box opens he drops out flies around inspects all those drones lands back on recharges herself ready for tomorrow drives itself out warms itself back up again in all those Canadian lovely Winters here so so that's what we built something that can survive in that kind of winner but then we're doing that very BB loss which is a risk reduction so we're in the middle of nowhere which to Transport Canada was somewhat acceptable as a risk management but also we needed what if the worst happens and there is a helicopter flying through that oilfield at the at the moment which can happen as well and we're a helicopter operator so we could be either threatened in there because we do oil and gas

**[5:04]** pipeline inspections by helicopter so we very much have a self-interest in managing that so we had to build a detect and avoid device on it and then we did so to come back to your question uh yes you've got to divide develop these things but you've got to think about BB loss building a box so you have to stand next to and the Drone pops out both back into you have to stand next to it there's none a lot of use I agree yeah so so we we had to from the ground up build the two together they have to talk together uh the detect and avoid system and the and and the actual drone and the Box needs to be able to talk to each other straight away and we we did that with hours to try and overcome that absolutely that's a great answer and I appreciate that so let's let's get Let's Get Serious for a moment Let's Get Serious so we've all seen those viral videos of drones gone Rogue crashing into trees and basically causing chaos and Mayhem do does your baby loss ready drone nesting solution come with a not for idiots label um or are they designed to be idiot proof enough for even the most technologically

**[6:07]** challenged in individuals to use safely yes and no so every day all day the same repetitive press the button box opens drone takes off goes out and does what you did the last 10 15 20 days it'll do it you'll fly around that construction site record the entire action for today on the construction site land on upload it done one bubble press however the day you deviate from that is the day you don't need the idiot captured so uh yeah the the uh the deviations still require training still require knowledge of course the uh authorities still require you to be licensed and insured and upgraded to the right level and train to the right level so you still need to know and then of course since that old adage on Aviation of what if something goes wrong The Airliner you and I flew here today probably flew itself here most of the way but I'm really glad there were two guys in the front of it that were made to make a district when something goes wrong it's the

**[7:08]** same with drones they're valuable they're important the data they collect is very valuable probably more so than the Drone itself agreed and therefore to you to proceed on with that construction for you to still pump oil in that remote dual field without sending someone there we need it to work the same way same day and someone to work out what's going wrong with it landed everything so there's still lots of life for the trained individual left in drones but making media proof means that you and I also don't mess up because we're human as well it's true and we we're the ones that are going to mess up you have to speak yeah so let's let's look into the future the future's over there yep we're looking into the future actually it's right there it's right in that camera how do you envision BB lost ready drone session Solutions evolving what impacts are they going to have on the overall drone industry and our daily lives I think you and I has no baby but just take us away from the Drone industry for a

**[8:09]** minute sure I think you and I will notice no difference but it's the end users of data that will so let's go back to our construction site that construction site my brother-in-law is a general contractor I said to him if you had a little drone and you could sit at the side of a construction site and record your progress all day every day with you doing nothing how much difference is there you just you just saved me eight hours a week as the general contractor responsible for that construction site and if maybe just a simple house has built it he's not into big construction he said if I can put that bolts there and leave it there and I don't have to answer phone calls about how far I've got this leak to the owner I'm building the house for and this is a small general contractor self-employed this is his job he built houses for individual houses that they're bigger houses but you know you know and and he's telling me at that scale that this is going to make eight hours of difference to him now scale that out to a massive construction site of 100 houses and scale that up wow so that's the impact that drones can have when they become idiot-proof when it becomes every day and the documentation of that it saves

**[9:11]** you time and effort because you somebody is asking for the data the drone's giving you and if you don't have to be involved in collecting that beta oh there you go now we're being efficient and that's the difference it's going to make so for you and I in the Drone industry it means it's a good thing but the guy on the ground is also a good thing as well the guide is working that construction cyber guide us needing that data on databases that that's the key that's the key I mean the all of these machines are becoming workhorses of this industry and it's what we're resting our Laurels on that that application of the data is going to be there and ever evolving and that makes sense so you know last question I'm just curious now so if drones could talk would they complain about the long hours and we just saved eight hours right it's gonna be out there it's gonna be on site every day long hours demanding tasks and this BB loss ready drone nesting solution so like how do you think the Drone Community would handle drone labor disputes and work-like ballots we took it to the wrong guy hit so uh having come from the mg9 community that's uh

**[10:16]** yeah that's a uh an interesting question but I won't go with it uh so uh so yeah I'm mend where we are now unmanned is a complete misnomer because you know the regulatory authorities won a pilot in command of every drone that ever flies out there at the moment someone is responsible even if you just press a button and it does its own thing someone wants to someone they need someone to monitor it someone to supervise it someone to be answerable for when it goes wrong or you know what what the human of the loop at the moment are we going to get beyond that where the software is in the local software the AI is all demanding all controlling and everything else that's when the labor dispute goes from the the notionally unmanned road to the uh to the to the uh to the software and I think that's where life becomes a lot more acceptable the biggest change I see all now on quality of life for drone Crews is the one on many stuff so how many drones can a man control well automated pressing buttons monitoring 6 8 10 12 20. this

**[11:19]** is where the Drone industry really starts to scale we're not there yet yeah but we're we're approaching it where yeah I can see the complaint being not from the Drone but from the drive guy that is monitoring 20 drones simultaneously and two of them have gone wrong and they're on the wrong path there and one of them's gone BB lost and the other one's gone completely lost linked it is heading across a major city causing the chaos we spoke about has started I can see it coming it will come uh and the labor dispute will I can't control that many no no the Drone will be complaining although one of those dogs I could see actually complain the dog might actually complain yeah I'll agree with that and I I gotta set up a separate interview there because I'm gonna like what you what do you feed them yeah um where do they go to the bathroom uh well so this is this has been an amazing amazing amazing guest uh thank you so much for being here this has been a whole lot of fun Dean um thanks for being a good sport this has been very interesting to learn about your solution about sort of your insights about the industry I mean yeah we've been doing this long

**[12:20]** enough that it's it's fascinating to see where it's going from where it's been and what its possibilities are in the future I think that's amazing um so thank you so much for joining NestGen Express I hope you had a good time on the show and you could see um you can see basali at the end and they may have a little gift for you so I really appreciate you being here and yeah thanks again excellent really enjoyable thank you very much you still love it
