**[0:08]** thank you I okay let's get started hello everyone a very warm welcome to the very first panel session for today do let us know where you're coming in from and what you're hoping to learn at this session today if you have some interesting questions for our panel uh please drop them in the Q a section and let's get started so today we are going to delve deep into the uh the expanding role of drone docks in several verticals and industries including some use cases that you might not even have considered so why don't you get a bowl of your favorite snack and be prepared uh to be glued to your seats for the next 45 minutes by the way I am beshali Markham manager of light base and NestGen coordinator and I'm also the sessions moderator and today I have brought together three speakers who are early adopted drone solution providers from three different geographies to highlight their experience and journey to adopting

**[1:12]** autonomous drone operations for a variety of use cases the Drone service drone as a service model has emerged as one of the largest market segments within the Drone industry connecting Hardware Engineers software developers and Enterprises looking to adopt drugs the Drone solution providers are these talented magicians who combine the Best in Class Hardware software analytics local regulatory guidelines and best practices to provide businesses with the tailored solution that meets their specific requirements so let us hear about the journey their challenges and how they navigated this autonomous drone ecosystem but then before I begin I would just like to share a few housekeeping rules um so please know that the session is getting recorded and will be available for viewing soon if you have any questions for our panelists do drop them in the Q a section we will try to get them addressed at the end of the discussion and do visit

**[2:13]** the booth of our speakers and check out more about their offerings in the networking and Booth visit finally I uh if you if you like the session if you find any invaluable insights then please drop in a message on or a post on LinkedIn and tag flightways use the hashtags nextgen23 open bib movement the top three posts will receive uh NestGen hampers I would also like to shout out uh to our title sponsor DJI Enterprise and our Platinum sponsor volatas Aerospace for joining us in this mission so let's begin uh with the introduction of our speakers today first and foremost I'd like to welcome Nicola marietti founder and general manager of aibu group who has joined us all the way from Italy he's in Malaysia today but he is originally from Italy Air View group has been a Pioneer in providing aerial inspection and land

**[3:17]** surveying services to clients who are using heavy systems to generate high quality data they also advise businesses on how to integrate uncrewed systems into their operational processes and provide certifications for BVLOS and official UAV training thank you Nicola for being with us today would you like to quickly introduce yourself yeah thank you very much and welcome everyone uh I'm Nicola marietti I am I mean I'm an engineer and I found that I have a group 10 years ago in 2002 have uh with a mission to the introduction of the the adoption of the 12th sorry the Enterprise company to adopt the Drone technology in the operational and maintenance services so until today we reach the goal in Italy and we they perform more than 10 000 is patch on everyday mainly on Transportation Market

**[4:20]** on Bridges passion and other services thank you so You're such Nikola for about AIU group thank you [Music]

**[5:20]** that's an amazing video of uh Nicola uh thank you so much for sharing it with us I would now like to introduce Kwame Kwame is um spearheading the Drone team at SKT Arrow shutter which is headquartered in Ghana SKT aeroshutter has been in the Drone industry for over six years specializing in data acquisition of various Industries in Africa the company is also an innovator in the redesigning and development of uavs for specific applications could you please uh briefly introduce yourself all right thank you uh so my name as you said isong and I'm the team lead for monitoring inspection and the Drone autonomy at SKT I was motivated and inspired about eight years ago when I had my first Phantom 3 drone and used it for photography and then videography as well it was later and then I realized that I mean the Drone could be used for other drone use cases rather than

**[6:22]** just photography and videography so I therefore joined SKT with shatter which is an area data solution company that specializes in the agricultural sector the mining sector oil and gas and then also the construction sector as well um SKT with shutter is headquartered in Ghana but I also have offices in Cote d'Ivoire and in Senegal that's the western part of Africa we also do have offices in Netherlands and one in France but these are not commercialized these are offices that are being used for R D so we don't commercialize flights over there also does manufacture some drone parts and use it for our drones in terms of Agriculture and other sectors as well so we also do provide maintenance services for other drone users and we also do trained pilots to become certified drone Pilots as well for help them follow through uh all the regulations and finally get them registered under the Ghana civil aviation Authority and then uh it is very important

**[7:25]** actually to be on this platform and also to highlight that uh skta is locally licensed drone company in Ghana that's had that had the first BV law certification by the Ghana civilizations Authority yeah thank you so much for the introduction for me I will pick your brains in in a few minutes when I have a set of questions that I need to ask but meanwhile why don't we watch a quick video from uh SKT we use to offer our clients are solutions we have clients in the market sector sector forestry and construction Etc [Music] thank you

**[8:27]** our clients that is without human implications however the requirements for Pilots will be significantly on-site limited all value of the blue Technologies to get to this future of autonomous contributions to our clients we need to overcome this regulated hassle this is is why we have worked closely to our partners and our kind of civilization authority to achieve the easy lost certification in which is a Beyond visual line of Science Education our hunt in the mining construction and agriculture industry are using our drone in the Box solution for perimeter settlements emergency response inspection and for scheduled missions [Music] thank you

**[9:30]** that's an excellent video again for me thank you for sharing it uh finally I would like to welcome Steve o'callaghan from the founder and CEO of protagonist protection in the UK Steve a former British military surgeon knows everything there is to know about security operations so Steve's been a Pioneer in providing automated drone Security Solutions across the UK and having managed clients in a low profile security consultancy to high profile so a warm welcome to you Steve we are glad to have you join us today let us begin with a brief introduction of you uh hello everyone uh thanks for joining today thanks for having me as one of the speakers today uh very nice to be here uh Speaking In This Very prestigious event so yes as uh Bashar has mentioned there my name's Stephen Collins Pharmacy or stations protection we're a UK based company uh primarily we'll deal in the physical side of

**[10:34]** security so from ranging from uh low-level Port section all the way up to hostile protection in various countries around the world State security assessments asset protection um and then we kind of took a switch um about 18 months ago into then the UAV sector um introducing uavs into our business model as we've seen a huge gap in the market or into the safe and security aspect side so from there we we partnered with ID player who obviously the build manufacture and develop the Nexus system to introduce automated operations for our clients around the world and it's just increase the overall situational awareness and security vision for clients um just again ease in the efficiency and effectiveness of what the security would provide for our clients around the world right thank you so much Steve I uh thank you again everyone for your introduction welcome to NestGen I will now quickly uh jump into the conversation that everybody's been waiting for uh so there are let's let's kick

**[11:40]** start with you know the most famous question that goes around everywhere there are several drone manufacturers that have launched their drone docking systems in the past year and a lot of early adopted dsps such as yours have begun leveraging them to conduct pocs and Pilots for a variety of customers so based on your recent experience which Industries or applications do you believe will see a rapid adoption in drone in a box systems so Nicola would you like to begin yeah thank you yes the question is uh the main question for uh for our customer our new client and so on my consideration is that in the past years drone have changed the way of doing this Pledge on monitoring and others other services they today are a must to have in any market and that was uh disrupted disrupted at the end so today Drew nests are the same technology a disruptive

**[12:43]** technology we are ready with our customer to go to the next step so to further improve Services make them autonomous first of all remote and intelligent so I'm sure that every guest in this event has an application in mind for sure we work with a large company offering inspections and utms services software platform and consultancy consultancy The Nest will find for sure application in expression in surveillance monitoring and Emergency Services they will become an integral part of a customer iot platform sending data that will be used to make decision or I think to figure I went on other systems we are really working on project for

**[13:46]** surveillance of sensible insensitive sites especially monitoring infrastructure and Logistics so in my opinion these are the first vertical that we start right right I think Nicola you've already covered almost all the applications that are there out out there but then let me ask this question would you like to layer on on that what about the customer perception in Ghana uh or you know across Africa what are the applications do you think uh you know the or the industries do you think that are going to adopt docking stations okay thank you uh first of all some some Industries have contacted us for this drone in a box solution and then one or most of them that really come is the mining industry okay because um let's look at this use case scenario in one of the mining industries that they came that did approach that so they had issues with uh illegal mining right so

**[14:50]** anytime the miners do come at night whereas the Securities will be working during the day because uh at night they come mining in their bushes whereas they don't have security people to be able to manage who is uh entering their concessions and all that so we came through and then the Drone in a box solution was required for them but during flying of this situation therefore they realize that with the thermal capability they realize that at night that is when this illegal miners will come and mine so with this they had a lot of data a lot of information in order to provide to the police on the other Regulators to finally find a solution to just end this whole process one other um that security for their minds actually one other um rapid adoption 2 will be uh the construction industry okay we do have a lot of um people in the industry who do construction other people do not even wear their

**[15:52]** safety vests and all that so with this joining the Box solution uh mining uh sorry a construction company did approaches and it was deployed on their side so with this they could monitor a vast size of money or construction what's going on so in order to see whether people are really safely geared or people are really doing the wrong thing we're able to capture guitar in real time and they have received for further action they do also employ deploy this in the harbor harbor and then also in our gated communities in our country which should work perfectly yeah right I think definitely your spot online and construction have been one of the you know a couple of uh use cases that we've also seen a lot of customers deploying drone in a box systems for and there's a lot of complex workflows with regards to progress monitoring and uh you know monitoring the the kind of excavation work that's always going on in the minds so definitely having a drone in a box systems

**[16:55]** for repeatable operations are going to make the lives easier especially mines are almost everywhere located in the most remote or remoteest of places so sending uh people a to and fro from all of these locations are also going to take cost a lot of resources so follow-up question to you again uh Kwame what dsps uh as a DSP you you must have faced multiple challenges uh with regards to you know conducting drone operations because operations is a different game altogether uh especially for data collection so could you highlight some of the challenges that you've come across uh before you know adopting drone box systems okay uh so let me go ahead and use the mailing sector as an example here okay one of the challenges will be regulations regulation in a sense of companies like the mice and being people are certified to I mean we are before certified so being able to run operations for them we therefore need to contact UM Air Traffic Control almost every now and then before missions are being

**[17:59]** repeated so this is a case where um if you do uh sign up for a scheduled Mission or repeated Mission sometimes when the time is due you realize there's an aircraft coming in these people are left in Golden bringing people in all the time so when when there's an aircraft coming in therefore Air Traffic Control actually to ground your drone so we realize um we are not able to fly certain times that we do want to fly and then however these are missions that we have set and then we would like to achieve them so regulations play a part in in this repeater slides as well um one thing also will be our internet connectivity here okay we find um this mining guys mostly in the outskirts in the rural areas and these are places where internet connectivity there is internet there but it's not as fast as you get it in the cities so you're having a remote pilot being stationed about 60 or 100 kilometers away from the concession where you have good internet connectivity but whereas you have a low

**[19:01]** transfer I mean upload or download way to where your docking station is so therefore internet becomes a big challenge for us in terms of controlling the system so in situations like this um you can you can run the machine because if you send their mission into the Drone it is uploaded and it don't takes off and does the machine correctly and come back however the live feed that you would like to see yes you'll get a couple of breaks in the library that you want to see but if they don't come back to the box and land and all your data is uploaded to the cloud that is when you get the actual clear view of the real situation that was on the ground so one of the things I mean two things here that really do worry our patients will be challenges will be the regulations and the internet connectivity right thank you Kwame for highlighting that again uh the communication gap is I think one of the again big issues when you're sending pilots on field who do not have enough internet access to you know send back the data that they are capturing in real life material back to the command centers so having features such as Cloud

**[20:06]** media sync which automatically syncs SD card videos right up on the cloud and send them and people in the command center get access in real time definitely helps thanks again for pointing that out I'm sure a lot of people uh in the audience would be uh wanting to learn ways as to how uh to make this possible or make this autonomous drone operation feasible I'm moving on to uh Steve so autonomous technology is increasingly being built in in the field of you know being used in the field of security so given your experience in this field how has the technology improved uh conventional security operations what are the major challenges you see uh do you do you see being overcome I think as we've seen opportunities um have risen significantly um by the needs to let's say secure large and at most times often complex sites and

**[21:08]** the customers and clients will have to leaning towards Nation as far as is reasonably possible while ensure and offshore the wild safety and the cost Effectiveness and obviously the main one staying on the right side of the Regulators um now sensuated essentially operated dive systems at all about system it was run by especially it's dsps like ourselves um are emerging more and more as an exactly what option um as the days weeks and months go on it was the safety insecurity um drawn service and solution provider we do focus more to that on the security sector for that reason because we're obviously secures consultancy however that sector itself of your team is very diverse and it lends itself to to merge into into other sectors as uh quiet mother and also Nichol has been mentioned um and we've seen it firsthand also so from our proactive approach to our key market analysis and research that we've been conducting you know over the past 18 months

**[22:09]** we've been able to identify specific needs in various sectors and that will or would benefit from the the implementation of diet systems and in particular our partner system from from RDI um the Nexus system which um you'll get to CLC uh later on during the during the next gen session now the industry we believe that and see rapid adoption of these systems primarily relying for safety security sector due to the number of factors um inflation obviously inflation costs um that's you know on the rise considerably um also the cost for for manned Personnel uh to be Insight is you know going through the roof obviously implies a lot more costing companies a lot more the risk as well um obviously risk is a huge factor and in the industry and safety industry we're looking to reduce risk and to lowest reasonably practicable um that we can't uh by putting any any mitigation methods in that we can to to obviously um protect not

**[23:10]** only the size of the client the customer your stuff also and its companies as well that comes down to but if we delve a little bit deeper into the world of autonomy um as this is all based around what it means and we we can get again a bit of that better understanding of this um as to why or who would benefit from the the implementation of autonomous systems so a lot of people would ask what what role do drones have in automation especially the question we asked by client's law I can't really answer the question or really detail what the role is so you look at the optional automation Loop which is essentially the sense decide act and control you can't engage a better understanding where drones do fit into this because it's almost all drones are sent into because you know gangstand sends them have some form of sensor on the system itself so before that then leads on so what do drones provide it's data and without data we can't act there's only of that raw data that's

**[24:11]** being brought into us then it allows us to put in some form of reaction um to what whatever that data is telling us so they have essentially data collectors um they have onboard processing units computers and constantly collect data from an environment and via the sensors GPS cameras Etc um so when asked who what industry or application would benefit from the safe rapid accurate timely data collection I I personally believe it's every industry there's every industry as a use case a new supplication for drones um and autonomous systems um each with their own specific needs and requirements and and this is where we as a John's uh drone service and solution provider assists in the implementation operations such systems right I think again uh spot on Steve uh especially for highlighting in security how integration with the existing alarm systems and sensors can improve the incident

**[25:12]** response and any kind of uh you know if there is any eye that is required in the sky there's an alarm that's been raised there's an intruder in in the space in any property and sending the person or instead of a person you're sending a drone right away uh automated that tooth right from the docking station is going to make uh so much everything so much simpler and definitely that is one of the key aspects about having drawn in a box in your security operations and given our experience with you know working with over 200 plus customers we we uh we definitely see security as one of the key uh industries that see adoption but given that like you said all the industries are going to definitely need such automated uh processes and we only hope to see that yeah we have gotten some good questions coming in but I I will get to those questions uh audience but I have some questions that I want to you know uh ask

**[26:14]** the panelists which I should I I shall wrap up quickly and then get to your questions soon so Nicola you have been working on one of a kind use case traffic management that's not something a lot of people across the world are doing uh that were using drone in a box Solutions so could you elaborate on this application how what kind of value or Roi are drone docking stations providing to the officials are using it for traffic management yeah it's true traffic manager was not the the first things in my mind that it could be started with the with the nest room I was pointing 100 euro on security first but anyway we were closer in the transportation Market so we started to work with the traffic monitoring area for improving the quality or the information that arrive in the control room

**[27:18]** uh of course the customer is the most one of the most important entire customer have a lot of fixed camera along the the road but they have uh black spots a lot of bread spots and they are not able to follow for more than 200 meters the same event so with the nest room they will able to schedule a mission so every hour drones will fly around they will trigger communication or event coming from the team on the field and in case of uh incidents car incident they were able to understand how to let the emergency

**[28:18]** crew go there because this is a this is an issue for them not knowing what really is uh happened they cannot decide to respond in the right way uh last last also the problem with the tunneling with a plus flight so you can see the field of view of two or three kilometers of the road then you can also jump the problem at the time again flying around and see what happened at the the beginning and the end of the road so uh they are happy to to start because we in the first phase we simulated the dogs with biblos Pilots they understood the quality of the video streaming

**[29:20]** real time they understood that they can integrate those video and other information that came from the Drone in two days iot platform and so they can take decision with those information so I'm really exciting because this summer in uh in a complex area of the the highway in Italy we will have five five Nest room working all the summer monitoring our vacations and taking statistical information about the number of flight again the number of flight faults for media for other situation and so on just to understand if it's possible to extend to the main statistical complex area on the network itself

**[30:23]** right I think uh thank you for highlighting Nikola that how you have a plan for scale already like five docking stations set up across the area where your cons right now you know conducting these operations or demos I think we have a question in the panel around so given uh looking 12 months out what is the estimate on how much uh drone automation uh will pick up so how many customers do you think will have more than 25 automated drones each if if I had to ask the question open it for the entire panel it would anybody like to answer that I think again something um I think for that question and thank you Sanjay for the question um I think it's a it's a really hard one to put put your finger on at the moment I mean we've like you say we've been conducting a lot of Market Research in terms of um how this is again excuse the point I'm going to take off over the next 12 months and we've we've calculated around the 65 increase in the terms of

**[31:26]** automation the implementation of automation across various uh sectors and interests industries that we've discussed so far now in terms of how many customers may have more than 25 automated drones each again that's it's a really hard one to to answer really I suppose it's only pretend depending on the contract needs um for actually going to be implementing these systems for but we can certainly certainly all agree that in in the next 12 months it's going to be a really really high spike in implementation of automated systems certainly yes now thanks again uh Steve uh I think I heard Nicola saying somewhere that they already have a vision of deploying 15 organizations uh so Nicola would you like to like layer on that how how what what's the uh you know what's going on in Italy like how is the regulations what do you what's your vision for uh the geography or the use cases that you've been working for especially with regards to automated deployments I think that regulation is uh could is not the main issue

**[32:33]** because the UTM service provider in every country needs that those kind of use case start because they are a business company at the end a UTM service provider needs to make money for the foreign that I pay to the UTM service provider this is the model for the future you pay a ticket for fly if we not start everybody will go down not only us but also the udm system around the world but this is for sure the future so the the full down will never happen uh just to be clear in

**[33:33]** our project we partner with the UTM system in Italy this is the way for me to work with and to open the business of doing a box system but in general the pp loss and logistic and long-range flights it's a matter of understanding the win-win philosophy yes definitely Nicola I agree and especially for thanks for highlighting the point of how Partnerships are going to be important especially people working in complementary Technologies like the software the UTM the hardware the Drone uh the the boxes uh different Technologies need to come together to make all of this a reality so I would like to go to Steve now drone docking stations like I just said

**[34:34]** are only one part of the puzzle so there are going to be a lot of other technology complementary technologies that are going to be required to get started with bewareless operations so what in your opinion is going to be absolutely required to before moving fully automated or starting with you know be Wireless operations especially in the UK yeah I think it's it's a very a very good and uh valid question but Charlene it's one that uh a lot of drawn service providers in UK are having to uh first and all will come at the moment um and the regulations obviously are so assault um Titan nailed down in UK which you know they show before BB operations because there's such a a greater risk when you conduct it would be lost operations in terms of sensors yeah it's again it's down to sounds the the control and the setup of who's actually building the operations I was making sure that the correct safety and mitigation uh measures are in place um again to reduce that risk as low as possible

**[35:37]** um because again it's just the the danger to obviously BB operations and becomes obviously a far greater risk but as we've seen um obviously around the world of companies implementingly with operations it can be done safely and that's what we want to get through what we will get to in UK and where we can have guys say these fully scaled autonomous BB loss operations and would like to dive systems um but yes it's going to be it's going to be a lot down to what implementation of various other sensors on the system to provide that awareness in the skins and demand obviously our experience as well that helps and air does get there a lot quicker um and it also comes down to the remote ID section as well and also the FAA and us have already introduced um UK is not too far behind so having that remorse ID in place that again will increase the overall safety of these BB BV loss operations right I think uh you know integrating the

**[36:38]** come before uh you start going for fully bewareless operations and you have a lot of Technology Partners even in national uh in in the following few sessions are going to show us how that can you know that is possible uh so but I think I have a lot of questions around the regulations as well and especially when we are talking about autonomous operations that kind of pops up in the mind uh so um for everybody who joined in and did not uh you know get to the introduction of mentioned that SKT Arrow shutter is like one of the few uh or companies that have gotten Beverly certification from G GCA in Ghana uh would you like to tell us about the process how did you go about getting the certification and yes is it specific to Hana or how is it working out yeah okay um not only specific to Ghana if that's it because um the GCA okay our tower that we

**[37:39]** have here is we work in collaboration with our neighboring countries and like I stated earlier uh we also do work in Ivory Coast so when being certified in Ghana makes it easy for us to also be certified in Ivory Coast because uh they do take a lot of information from our Tower in Ghana here so yes that's how we do we get regulations there as well and then uh with The Regulators we do work with the we we work with them from the beginning let me put it that way when they wanted a company started up we had GCA in as part of us so they were they are part of us in in every little step that we take okay for instance in in an airplane situation example would be an airplane situation even if your boat is supposed to be changed we need to consult the GCA let them know the specification and whatever your changes that you're making to the aircraft it's the same as we do in our sorry it's the same as we do in our company every a little thing or any adjustments or modification that we add to our drones we do send a message to the GCA for them to inspect and give us

**[38:45]** a go ahead before we go ahead and push it also in every step of our operation and then when the concept or when an idea is born and then before the idea is even executed an example will be the Drone in a box solution this is something new that just came into the system so when the idea was even thought of we had to involve the GCA that this is something that we are trying to implement so therefore they start looking into it and then we also go into it we bring it in we show them our specification and then before even it comes in the CR specification this is something that we took them in the past so we have an idea of what is coming so from that the time the idea is born and the time the idea is executed their civil aviation Authority uh in sync with us during the whole time and then we demonstrate also our full capability to them in terms of easy loss operations so when the system comes in we run it we show them what they can do and then how we operate in doing do remote DV loss operations and we do that to their most satisfactory

**[39:45]** and then having safety also as our priority and running the system also uh in sync with them therefore we go ahead and approve us or give your certification and listen since we started this in the past with them and also has been their first locally licensed drone company and refers to get a bill of certification they know that we are professionals and they know how to run our operation as well so having all these in uh in their books therefore getting a big loss certification was approved for us and that's how we started thanks again Kwame for walking us through this entire Journey uh I think we are almost up on time uh so would uh anybody from the panel like to share some closing thoughts especially because we have a lot of budding entrepreneurs who might have joined this session to learn more about how they can leverage drone in a box Solutions in their geographies so if there is any one piece of advice that you have to share with them what would that be uh it's again an open question so if anybody

**[40:47]** would like to take that I think um a real key one that especially for ourselves um bringing our automated operations into into our business model is stick with it um you know there is there is a lot to it there's a lot of I think needs put into it to bring up to speed and to talk to you the main thing is making sure you remain compliant and um you know about with the regulations um but again don't be disheartened um when people are telling you it can't be done it can be done it's just making sure you stick with it put the effort in put the work in and it'll pay off in the end I think that the grown in a box at the hand is a project so it's not uh purchase of simple technology but if the you want to use it in the correct way you need to create the solution and so make the project with the hardware with the software with the

**[41:51]** security of the system because we are sending data on the cloud and so especially the Enterprise customers need to be secure by your data and we we need we need to apply with this with those requirement and not not as uh at the end the privacy of the data because we in in Europe we have the gdpr rules and so the system needs to maintain all the data in European server and this is another method that needs to be addressed I think okay for me one advice that I will share is to follow regulations and fly responsibly okay I mean we now live in an era where people just purchasing a drone without doing any regulations and take off and when it goes ahead and hit an aircraft for some reason

**[42:52]** and aircraft comes down this is going to hold are all operations I mean those who are certified to fly bivalents and those who are not set fire is just going to worry about all depression so just follow regulations and then fly responsibility to protect us all from there to protect the ice case as well yeah right thank you again all of you for sharing your advice and I'm sure this Insight is going to help uh thank you audience for joining us and you know listening into this conversation uh we have of the very first networking session of the day live in actually now uh right away so we have over uh you know 3000 people joining us from across the globe and so make sure you go to the networking Tab and network with the entire you know audience or whoever's joining in check out your uh you know the other booths that are also there so we also have the virtual Booth or Expo section Expo

**[43:55]** Tab and check out the booths that of of various companies or Technologies in the Drone industry and uh some other products and services that they have to offer so thank you again a special thank you to you know Kwame Steve and Nicola for spending this time uh with us we will see you soon again thank you very much you have a great day out there foreign
